bike to work 2015: 2'535 kilometers in two months
22.07.15 - From May 1st to June 30th, two teams of WENZEL Metromec AG have taken the bicycle or another HPM (Human Powered Mobility, e.g. by foot or roller skates) to commute to work. Thereby they travelled 2'535 km.
Bike to work, this idea excites more and more businesses and commuters in Switzerland. This year, businesses had the opportunity to participate optionally for two instead of one month. More than a third of the participating businesses decided to participate two months.
The bike to work campaign was held for the 11th time and set records: more participants, more teams, more businesses and more kilometers. During the campaign months, 52'541 commuters from 1'665 different businesses traveled 9.88 million bicycle kilometers. Or in other words, the bicyclists cycled around the world 246 times. On this route, a car would emit 1'581 tons of CO2*: A forest with 126'000 beech trees would need one year to cut these emissions. Furthermore, the participants burned over 237 million calories, which corresponds with a tiramisu with the size of a soccer field.
The management of WENZEL Metromec AG congratulates the two teams to this excellent result and hopes that next year's bike to work can inspire even more employees to participate.
